Job description

The Head ESG will execute.

  • Lead the discussions on sustainability with all key stakeholders and DFIs on various platforms and able to show how sustainability is embedded in the vision and mission of the organization.
  • Should be able to represent the company present work and future on Social, Environmental and Governance side.
  • Leads the annual ESG Report preparation including information and data gathering, content development and external assurance. Ensures alignment with ESG disclosure requirements and best practices. Identifies potential challenges and proactively manages them to ensure on time and quality deliverables.
  • Manages multiple and complex internal and external ESG issues request ensuring quality of deliverables in line with company standard and positions and ensuring milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Act as a strategic advisor on a wide range of ESG topics, and manage work streams and teams on program execution, including material development and oversight as well as project management.
  • Drive and enable implementation of ESG initiatives through extensive project management; Track and monitor initiatives through the development of performance indicators, target-setting, tracking of progress against targets, etc.
  • Ensures Standard Operation Procedures and other documentation supporting ESG reporting activities are in place, follow best practice and properly maintained.
  • Creates internal alignment and awareness within the functions and governance structures regarding the preparation of the annual reports and other submissions, reporting process, reporting requirements and action plans to improve ESG reporting and disclosure.
  • Work closely with various teams on E&S and CR&S / Community initiatives Manufacturing and Technical Services (MATS), Finance, Risk Management, Human Resource, Business Units (BUs) to drive quarterly meetings to track and monitor ESG initiatives.
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of data from relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborates, supports, and shares knowledge with team member to ensure ESG team priorities are achieved.
  • Ensure compliance through the CR&S team with environmental and social requirements as agreed with the investors.
  • Conduct environmental and social screening/ due diligence of new assets to be leased/ owned/ operated.
  • Manage appointment of, supervise, and monitor, external environmental and social consultants.
  • Ensure that applicable environmental and social requirements are met across the company.
  • Monitor implementation of environmental and social actions, implementation of environmental and social policies and management systems and environmental and social compliance and performance across the operations of the company including construction activities.
  • Prepare periodic annual environmental and social monitoring reports.
  • Streamline the contractor management process and labour related requirements for across the company.
Requirements

Knowledge/experience

  • Master/ Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration accountancy, social sciences, environmental sciences, engineering, economics, or communications
  • Well-versed in relevant sustainability guidelines and frameworks (e.g. Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), TCFD)
  • 5-10 years relevant working experience;’
  • Experience in West Africa would be an advantage.
  • Proven experience of successfully preparing ESG reports and responses to ESG rating agencies and rankings (e.g., CDP).
  • Working experience in managing ESG data collection and reporting processes. Good attention to quality and details and solid analytical skills.
  • Excellent project management skills and an ability to manage multiple complex projects and diverse stakeholders.
  • Intercultural negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of French would be an advantage.
